Gradall Forklift Part - The Gradall excavator was the creation of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. The excavator was created In the 1940's throughout WWII, when there was a shortage of labourers. Partners in a Cleveland, Richmond construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge dilemma when lots of men left the labor force and signed up in the military, depleting existing laborers for the delicate finishing work and grading on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to make an equipment that would save their business by making the slope grading task less manual, easier and more efficient.

Their very first design prototype was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform that was attached on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Shortly improving the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. In addition, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the equipment to be outfitted with either a bucket or a blade attachment.

Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their equipment since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems efficiently handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their digging and lifting ability. These models were manufactured along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed immense improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators make use of an operator to be able to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power intended for the task at hand. This makes the operator's general task easier and even saves fuel simultaneously.

As soon as their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of machines designed to tackle pavement removal, excavation, demolition as well as different industrial work. Marketability was further enhanced with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
